Ophthalmology is a medical speciality, deals with anatomy, physiology and disorders of the eye, eyelid and the lacrimal duct. An ophthalmologist is an expert in diagnosing and treating eye disorders and surgeries. A person’s eye can be bothered by various diseases like microbial infection of the eye, glaucoma, cataract, styes and retinal detachment. Since ophthalmologists perform surgeries on the eye, ophthalmology is a surgical medical speciality.
Iranian society of ophthalmology cooperates with both the ministry of health and medical education and Iran’s medical council. They also cooperate with other countries ophthalmology societies. Iranian society of ophthalmology holds monthly and seasonal seminars routinely. They also hold annual congress internationally. They highlighted their Iranian colleagues’ presence in international associations by being an active member of the MAECA. Iran Society of ophthalmology includes the following departments, which are being developed by them.
